El Dorado Maroma, a Review; Part 2: Amenities

Updated: Nov 8, 2019

Part 2 everyone! It's only been a month since I've been home, but Mexico feels so far away now, especially on these rainy, cold days. I'm hoping this post can get me back into the sun-shining, warm mindset!

This post will be about our room at the resort, the concierge and all staff, the beach, the other buildings and what they had to offer - and how beautiful it was!

Starting with the room:

First of all, before we got there, I get a pre-trip email from the concierge asking what types of liquor we wanted stocked in our mini bar for when we got there. As I mentioned in Part 1, once we arrived we could pick the essential oil scents for our room and our pillows, and order off the pillow menu. We had a Royal swim-up suite, and those rooms were in tall buildings right next to each other, down beautifully landscaped, jungle-garden-like walkways.

The room inside was open concept, beautiful and we had plenty of space. The King sized bed was right when you walked through the door, in front of the bed was the TV, mini bar, long dresser (which I obviously put all my clothes away the minute we got there). There was a desk, table for two, a couch and comfy chair, then you walk out to the patio with the lazy river ready to dip your toes into.

Housekeeping left mints and cute little cards for the spa each day - with corresponding colors :)

Those cabanas across the lazy river from our patio were on one side of the pool, and the 'straw' roof overhang is the swim-up bar, connected to the Italian restaurant

Across the lazy river off our patio, were the cabanas for the pool, the swim-up bar, and the Italian restaurant. One night we couldn't get our room key to work, so we got into the pool to come across and open our patio door! So handy.

This 'waterfall' was right across from our room as well, it's actually the entrance to one of the bathrooms, and is connected to the Italian restaurant. It was a nice sound to have in the background while laying out on the patio, because it was so close.

The lazy river comes down under this bridge and to the left is the pool

Back inside the room -- the bathroom was located behind the bed, actually it had glass walls around it so you could see in and out. There was a huge jet tub, double vanity, plenty of room, a separate toilet room, and a glass door shower that walked out to an outdoor shower.

It's a little hard to see it, but there is a glass wall behind me and that's our front door out to the walkways outside

This wasn't our room exactly, but similar! The bathroom with the glass walls are behind the bed, and the mini bar and TV are in front of the bed. I should have taken more pictures inside the room.

The A/C unit seemed to struggle just a little bit at times, but the fan helped it out. We loved the room - housekeeping came multiple times a day to tidy up, make the bed, spray the essential oils.

Moving onto the concierge, they were awesome. Part of the Presidential benefits/ Exotic Sapphire benefits package, we had a personal butler/concierge. They called and came by the room a few times a day to see if you needed anything - more towels, more ice, more drinks or snacks in the mini-bar, make your dinner or spa reservations, tell you where to find things, or recommend an excursion. The staff was amazing. Any person you talked to or passed asked how you were doing, do you need anything, etc. but also said "excellente" whenever you asked how they were. Happy, cheery, and helpful!

Our mini-bar stocked when we arrived!

All of the buildings were beautiful, the landscaping and gardens, the trees, everything was perfectly trimmed up and had tons of lizards, birds, and other animals throughout.

Excellente

Hola!

Now to the beach - the most important thing to us!! One reason we decided on Maroma instead of one of the other El Dorado resorts, like Seaside, was because my Aunt G said Maroma had the best beach. We ran into an Exotic member couple at the spa, and they agreed.

The beach was being cleaned, raked, shoveled, worked on each day by a crew that kept it beautiful, soft, and without rocks, shells, or seaweed/algae. The over-water bungalows are off o the side, then a little island in the middle, and on the far side of the island there are huge wave breaks/ sand bags -- we assumed to keep the beach nice and break the tough waves, to keep sharks and scary creatures out, to keep drunk people in.

There were cabanas lined up along the beach, which lounge chairs and an umbrella in front. The beach butler would set your 'space' up with towels, and get your drinks. They would come check on you every 15 minutes or so.

We walked out to the island (through the water, it wasn't super deep-I could get through without getting my hair wet) almost everyday. There are hammocks set up on the island, and we found a cool snail out there and saw tons of fish. The water out there was nice to lounge in because it was so warm from being inside the sand bag boundary. We also got to watch the parasailers.

The beach has kayaks and paddleboards sitting out that you can take whenever you want and paddle around the bungalows and the island. We had every intention of doing that-but the rain would come up each afternoon when we wanted to do it.

There were some crabs and fish that we would search for everyday!

We joked that this was the best picture of the trip, and it had to be of a bug

Relaxing in the cabana. P.S. can't say enough about these headbands

The swings and hammocks they had set up were so cute, and we got to people-watch all day (we picked the same cabana every day, right in front of the swings) and watching people take their Instagram-worthy pictures is awesome (we did it to obviously).

Overall - beach was amazing. We loved it.

Stayed tuned for Part 3 - the FOOD!!

Love,

Christine
